Texas Longhorns 1989-1990 Away Shorts
Tommy Penders 1989-1990 Texas team entered the season off the radar of the national pundits and unranked where they would remain all year. An early season win over #24 Florida was the lone win over a ranked team the entire season until the NCAA Tournament. However, a 21-8 regular season record was enough to put Texas on the right side of the NCAA Tournament "bubble" earning the Longhorns the #10 seed in the Midwest Region.
An opening round win over #7 seed Georgia setup a showdown with #2 Purdue for a chance to go the Sweet 16. Led by Travis Mays, Joey Wright and Lance Banks, Texas escaped with a 1 point win, 73-72, and a trip to the Sweet 16. After a convincing 13 point win over #6 Xavier, Texas lost in the Regional Final to #4 Arkansas.
